Middle School Students Take Flight with Science!

At Bradshaw Christian School, we believe science should be exciting and hands-on—and our middle school students experienced just that with the Egg Drop Parachute Challenge! This classic experiment combined creativity, problem-solving, and scientific exploration, as students designed parachutes to safely slow the fall of an egg. And let us tell you, the learning was just as fun as the challenge itself!
In a nutshell, the goal of this experiment is simple: design a parachute that prevents an egg from cracking when dropped from a height. But there’s a lot of science behind that seemingly simple task. To make it work, students had to dive deep into concepts like gravity, air resistance, and force—and they had to get hands-on to figure out how to balance those forces.
The classroom was buzzing with excitement as students worked on their parachute designs. They experimented with different materials—plastic bags, fabric, paper—and tested various parachute sizes. With each egg drop, they learned more about the forces at play and fine-tuned their designs.
The best part? Students worked together to share tips, troubleshoot problems, and celebrate each other’s successes. It was a perfect example of how collaboration enhances learning and makes the experience even more enjoyable.
