Bradshaw Football Spotlights a “Salute to Service” Night With a Big Win to Top it Off
It was your typical, end of summer, warm evening at The BCHS Pride football stadium. For Sacramento area high school football fans, the gridiron season always starts with shirt sleeves, shorts and iced sodas in hand. The normal enthusiastic fans in the stands filled both home and visitor sides. AND, typically, non league, pre-season games aren’t important to the team’s record as far as the league and section titles are concerned. So what distinguished this typical night of high school football from any other? Two things. A “Salute to Service” and a big win over a team that beat the Bradshaw squad last year in preseason play.
The second annual Salute to Service was a powerful reminder of the selfless men and women risking their lives daily to keep us safe. “Serving others in the line of duty comes with great risk and sacrifice, which is why it’s important to honor and show gratitude towards the very people in our own communities that help keep our families safe,” said BCHS Student Programs Coordinator, Jenn Chernyy. Chernyy, previously a paramedic herself, also has a husband who fights dangerous fires for a living and knows all too well what it means to serve the people in the community she lives in. Honoring all service members; police, fire, EMS, and military, during the home football game against Sutter, brought emergency vehicles including the REACH helicopter, to surround the field flashing lights and all. All those who were first responders and military, past and current, made their way to the grassy field to be recognized while the national anthem was sung by the high school choir. We are truly privileged to have the opportunity to honor these heroic servants. Facebook Video
The big win over Sutter High School was also an awesome experience. The team played hard, keeping us in the hunt to the VERY END, where we were behind and had to start at Sutter’s one yard line for a 99 yard drive with 3 minutes remaining. For a detailed account, The Sacramento Bee’s, Joe Davidson, reported it much better HERE.
Bradshaw football is looking forward to an “EXTRA-TYPICAL” , or in normal jargon, “EXTRAORDIARY” year!
