Middle School Collaborative Art Challenge

Middle School Collaborative Art Challenge

During the second semester of MS Art, students go through units that help them explore different styles of art.  One of the units they go through is “Collaborative Art.”  Students work on different art projects in which each student contributes work.  For their final art piece, students work together to create a mural out of tape.  There is selection process to decide on the final design.  Each student creates three different sketches.  Once completed, each student presents their favorite design to their seating group.  Each group votes on their favorite design and presents it to the entire class.  The class votes on four different designs and a winner is selected.  This gives students a chance to present their work and also allows them the opportunity to propose an idea to a larger group.  Once the design is selected, the student whose design is chosen will lead the group in making this vision come to life.  Students are allowed to add more ideas to the design chosen.  The designer leads the entire class in problem solving, assigning students to specific tasks and making sure the vision stays on track and is cohesive.  This year’s mural was designed by Owen Garrett.  It is entitled “Rat-a-tat-tat”.
