Middle School Students Loom Hats for the Needy

Mrs. Stewart’s math and English classes learned the art of looming! Taking a detour from equations and dangling participles, her students made 252 beanie hats to be donated to the Elk Grove Clothes Closet. It wasn’t unusual to see kids carrying their yarn from class to class and trying to get a few stitches in before their next class. Mrs. Stewart talks to her students about the importance of remembering that their goal in life is to serve others, even as they study and prepare themselves for their own future. The Lord asks us to take care of our fellow man. Not only does this project reinforce eye and hand coordination, it also helps them to remember to take care of others. The students had so much fun with this project that many made hats for everyone in their family for Christmas gifts!
