Three BCHS Students Recognized in National Merit Scholarship Program

Three BCHS Students Recognized in National Merit Scholarship Program

Congratulations are in order for Ryan Nguyen who was named as a semifinalist in the 2020 National Merit Scholarship Program through the National Merit Scholarship Corporation (NMSC). He now has an opportunity to continue in the National Merit Scholarship competition.  From the approximate 16,000 semifinalists, about 15,000 are expected to advance to the Finalist level with the opportunity to compete for 7,600 National Merit Scholarships worth more than $31 million.

Congratulations, also, to Abigail Albright and Caitlyn McCoy who have been named Commended Students in the 2020 National Merit Scholarship Program.  Although they will not continue in the 2020 competition for National Merit Scholarship awards, Commended students are placed among the top 50,000 scores of the more than 1.5 million students who entered the 2020 competition by taking the 2018 PSAT/NMSQT.  “Those being named Commended Students have demonstrated outstanding potential for academic success,” commented a spokesperson for NMSC. In addition, Abigail was also named a National Merit Hispanic Scholar through the National Merit Hispanic Recognition Program who recognizes students that scored in the top 2.5% among Hispanic and Latino 2018 PSAT/NMSQT test-takers in our region.

We are very proud to have three students in our graduating class of 94 students (3%) who were recognized.
