5th Grade Exploring STEM Experiments

Our 5th grade classes have been working hard to incorporate STEM activities throughout the year. On the last Friday of each month all three classes get together to work on a project. Students are using critical thinking and hands-on learning to work through these engaging activities. In January, the students were challenged to make a balloon inflate without using any breath! In groups of three, students carefully measured baking soda and vinegar into 3 different bottles. The students predict what will happen and then record their data in a chart. At the end of the experiment the student analyze their results and are then tasked with the job of looking for other real life examples of self-inflating devices that have been invented and used in the past and today. Our students love their time with these STEM activities and the teachers are seeing students blossom in their critical thinking skills through hands-on science!
